Coinciding with their 135th anniversary, Schoenhut® Piano Company has introduced a line of mid-sized, 44-key, stringed pianos with perfect pitch and TRUE PIANO SOUND. This piano line is a new concept in the world of music and musical toys.
The keys on the 44-key piano and other Schoenhut toy pianos are the same dimensions as those on a full-sized piano, so children learn the proper "finger stretch" from the very beginning, and have an easier transition from toy piano to a larger piano. With a keyboard half the size of that on an adult piano, this 44-key piano's four and a half octave span allows plenty of room for playing with both hands. Working pedals are easy for children to reach.
Schoenhut, leader and innovator in the toy piano and musical toy industry, recognized the need for a mid-sized piano to ease the transition from a toy to a full-sized version. These beautifully crafted stringed instruments were created after months of in-depth collaboration on the design with a reputable, century-old piano manufacturing firm. Schoenhut Company History
Albert Schoenhut, a German immigrant whose father and grandfather were toymakers, designed and built his first toy piano in 1872. The little instrument proved to be so popular that he established a business to manufacture a variety of toy piano styles and sizes. Albert later produced The Humpty Dumpty Circus, and a large variety of other toys and musical instruments. When Albert died in 1912, his five sons continued operations at their factory in Philadelphia. The company was run for many years by various family members until the last relative involved in the business retired. In 1984, the Trinca family purchased Schoenhut Piano Company, which is managed by them and headquartered in St. Augustine, Florida. Under the Trinca's leadership, Schoenhut Piano Company has remained in the forefront of the music industry by developing new models and expanding its line of musical instruments. Schoenhut toy pianos have delighted generations of families for decades. Demonstrating their popularity and durability, vintage models are avidly sought by collectors and featured at many prestigious museums and galleries throughout the world. For example, exhibits at Strong Museum in Rochester, NY and the Nuremberg Toy Museum in Germany provide an overview of the company's rich and interesting heritage.
